Is The Nikon D3400 Good Value For Money?
The Nikon D3400 is certainly a looker and when it comes to clicking that shutter it’s no slouch.
It’s Nikon’s entry level DSLR – but it really doesn’t disappoint. Nikon has an absolutely fantastic reputation when it comes to all sorts of optical and camera equipment – and they don’t let the fans down with this one.
It looks like a traditional camera and has the functions such as manual control and raw format shooting but there are little bits that make it just that bit special.

But don’t mistake the budget price of this camera – it’s robust and sits easily in the hand. It feels incredibly sturdy. It uses the casing that has been a hit with other previous models – with a few minor tweaks – and it seems like it will stand up to hard use. This is an entry level DSLR that will not disappoint when it comes to taking a few hard knocks on the nature trail.
So what do you get when you purchase this entry level camera? Well for one thing you get the 18-55mm kit lens. That’s great value and it folds up nice and small for those who want to take their photos on the go. You don’t get touch screen functionality as you would get if you spent a lot more money – but for many buyers – especially those who are just after a great photo without all the hassle it really shouldn’t be a deal breaker.
For those new to the Nikon range the normal ‘mode dial’ is hardly intimidating. There are all the settings that one could want unless you are a hard core photographer – it’s incredibly easy to select what sort of shot you want to take. In fact it’s almost intuitive.
One of the best features of this camera is that you can simply select which mode or type of image that you want using just one hand. The back of the camera is where all the action takes place. Using your thumb you can change things like aperture setting and shutter speed. With a little experimentation even the novice photographer can achieve amazing results.
And its easy to get the greatest shots – the viewfinder is big and bright and allows the user to get a great idea of what the final result will look like. And for those who want to take the opportunity to share their photos the camera also has an ‘always on’ Bluetooth functionality that syncs with your phone so as soon as you take that special shot you’ll be able to send it off to your family and friends.
All in all this is a camera that is absolutely perfect for the beginner who is not familiar with DSLR – it’s simple, but also allows for an exploration of what makes DSLR that little bit different from simply using your mobile device as a camera.
